What is karpenko-indicator?

Karpenko Indicator is an MT5 chart display built around a moving average and a shaded range around it. The average, deviation settings, colors, and line options shape the visible zone.
The shaded area provides context for comparing price location with the smoothed center and its surrounding range. It is a visual reference and does not define a fixed market direction.
How to Use It in Practice

Read the moving-average line and its color-coded candle relationship first: candles above the average are green and candles below it are pink, with the zone filling the space around that reference.
- Compare candle color and location with the average line before interpreting the shaded area.
- Use the upper period input to change the moving-average length.
- Use the lower zone-fill input to compare how the shaded range is drawn around the line.
- Keep the overlay alongside other chart references when a line-only display would become cluttered.
The moving average and its surrounding range are easy to read together, and simple styling options help keep the overlay clear.
MT5 Indicator Parameters

The screenshot above shows the default input parameters in the MT5 settings window.
| Parameter | Description |
|---|---|
| Length MA | Sets the period of the moving average used as the center of the shaded trend zone. A longer MA smooths out price action, while a shorter one reacts faster to market changes. |
| Length Envelope | Defines how wide the band is around the MA. A larger value produces a broader zone, capturing wider swings, while a smaller value creates a tighter and more sensitive zone. |
