What is momentum-of-ema-indicator?

momentum-of-ema-indicator - momentum seen through EMA speed

Momentum of EMA is an MT5 oscillator that measures the rate of change of an exponential moving average. EMA period, smoothing, price source, and reference levels shape the displayed momentum series.

The oscillator helps compare acceleration, flattening, and changes in pressure over time. Use it with price behavior and chart structure rather than reading a line change as a fixed outcome.

How to Use It in Practice

Compare the smoothed momentum line with the two gray, volatility-responsive reference lines:

EMA speed turns changing momentum into a compact display, smoothing reduces noise, and configurable periods support comparison across horizons.

  • Locate the two gray lines first; unlike the usual fixed plus or minus 100 Momentum levels, these move with volatility.
  • Compare the smoothed Momentum-of-EMA line with an ordinary Momentum display to see the effect of the EMA smoothing.
  • Use the blue and orange display colors together with the gray boundaries to organize the current state on the chart.
  • Use the display from the 15-minute chart upward, then compare its response with the surrounding price movement.

MT5 Indicator Parameters

Default MT5 Indicator Settings

The screenshot above shows the default input parameters in the MT5 settings window.

ParameterDescription
Momentum periodDefines how many bars are used to calculate the momentum of the EMA. Shorter periods react faster, while longer periods emphasize smoother momentum shifts.
Average period (<= 1 for no average)Controls additional smoothing applied to the momentum line. Setting this to a very low value disables extra averaging.
Average methodSpecifies the type of moving average used for smoothing the momentum values, such as exponential or other supported methods.
PriceDetermines which price is used in the EMA calculation, typically close price but adjustable if needed.
Levels periodSets the lookback used to calculate dynamic reference levels, helping to judge whether current momentum is relatively strong or weak.
Color change typeDefines how and when the indicator changes color, usually based on level crossings or momentum direction.
