What is vwap-bands-indicator?

VWAP Bands Indicator is an MT5 chart tool that displays a volume-weighted average price with bands above and below it. Session, price source, deviation, and band settings control the visible reference structure.
The center line and bands provide visual context for comparing price with a volume-weighted reference and changing intraday range. They are chart references, not instructions about a return to the center.
How to Use It in Practice

Compare the session VWAP line with its surrounding bands and with the way candles are distributed through the current range. Foreign-exchange VWAP commonly uses tick volume, which may differ from real traded volume.
- Review whether price spends time near the center line or near an outer band, then compare that placement with the visible range and trend context.
- Set the session and deviation inputs before comparing band width across different intraday periods.
- Check the broker or symbol volume setting when interpreting VWAP on FX instruments, because of that volume limitation.
VWAP and deviation references share one chart, session settings support intraday comparison, and band width adds range context.
MT5 Indicator Parameters

The screenshot above shows the default input parameters in the MT5 settings window.
| Parameter | Description |
|---|---|
| Volume weighted average period | Defines the calculation window used for the VWAP. Shorter periods make VWAP react faster to recent price and volume changes, while longer periods smooth the reference level. |
| Price | Selects which price value is used for VWAP calculation, such as Close or other applied prices. |
| Use real volume? | Determines whether real volume data is used. When disabled, tick volume is applied instead. |
| Deviation with sample correction? | Controls whether statistical sample correction is applied when calculating band deviations, slightly affecting band width. |
| First band(s) deviation | Sets the distance of the first set of bands from VWAP, representing mild price deviation. |
| Second band(s) deviation | Defines a wider deviation level, often used to identify stronger extensions from VWAP. |
| Third band(s) deviation | Specifies the outermost deviation bands, highlighting extreme price moves relative to VWAP. |
